Fall has officially arrived and orange is undoubtedly the color of the season. From the new studio set of The Today Show, to our own Home of Distinction family room, orange is trending in home decor and there are many ways to introduce this color in your own home.
Orange decor and furnishings adds a vibrant energy but also creates a sense of warmth. These tips and photo inspiration will help you incorporate this seasons color into your home.
For a fresh fall look pair orange with beige, whites or yellows.
If you’re ready to commit to orange for more than one season, choose one of the many paint colors available.
Earthy orange pairs perfectly with cobalt blues, greys, deep plums, and teals and textures popular this season.
Orange looks great in bold fabrics and patterns including this seasons Ikat and animal prints.
If you’re only ready to experiment with color, choose pieces that don’t require a commitment – pillows and lampshades are a great choice.
The Avon Home of Distinction welcomed hundreds of visitors throughout September, showcasing the latest decor and home building trends. This luxury home built by Pecoy Signature Homes, took stylish, sophisticated living out of the pages of a magazine and into a real home. As the official interior decorator and home staging sponsor, the PJ & Company Home Styling team was inspired by the home’s architectural beauty. We collaborated with furniture partners to select furnishings that reflected our vision of a luxurious home with stylish, comfortable spaces for living and entertaining.
As a designer show house we introduced visitors to the hottest styles of the season they may not typically see in traditional New England homes – bold color, Asian influences and Hollywood glamour and sophistication.
While the home is no longer on tour, the following photos offer a glimpse into the home’s interior and decor styles that will be trending into 2014. Consider adapting some of our style into your own home this season.
Grey is the new neutral in home decor and this grey menswear inspired sectional anchors the transitional look of this open family room. We added orange to brighten and energize the space with a modern leather studded chair, pillows, and artwork.
Centered around a Tibetan table, this dining room exudes Hollywood glamour. This room is about entertaining with luxe furnishings that add elegant style to any dinner party. An eclectic mix of textures, mirrored furniture and finishes create a modern version of this dramatic style.
Our room of color – designed in collaboration with Ron Smith of Chapter One – conveys our “out of the box” vision for this home. Bold color and pattern play dominate this space.
This grand master bedroom features dark espresso furniture mixed with grey and fuschia, creating an elegant retreat.
We wanted to showcase a modern style for a child’s room and this new grey toned crib set was the perfect choice. This wonderful neutral can be dressed up for a boy or girl.
It is hard to believe summer is over and it’s back to school time. After a busy summer, which included a once-in-a lifetime trip to France and London with my family — and reinforced my love for simple simple french country style — our team is gearing up for fall. We’re already busy working with clients to redecorate their homes as well as helping sellers stage their property for sale.
One of our most exciting projects is as the Official Interior Decorating and Home Staging Sponsor of the Home of Distinction, by Pecoy Signature Homes, that is also being promoted by Fox-TV, the Hartford Courant, Hartford Magazine and New Haven Living Magazine. We have been working diligently these past few months selecting and coordinating the interior furnishings for this Showcase custom home and collaborating with furniture and accessory partners including Chapter One, Williams-Sonoma, Puritan Furniture, Tommy Bahama, and Lord & Taylor’s.
Guests can tour the home Friday thru Sunday from September 13 – 29 and learn more about the model home tour, our services and all the partners.

Wallpaper is a top trend but as both an interior decorator and professional home stager I have a varying viewpoint on using it in home décor. Is it in or out? I say it’s both.
IN: As an interior decorator I love wallpaper. Interior decorating is focused on creating a space that matches the homeowner’s individual style and vision for their home, making wallpaper an exciting design choice in any room. Added to an accent wall, a beautiful wall covering can offer a stylish décor alternative to paint and creates an eye-catching design feature. Today’s options include modern designs from graphic prints including chevron and ikat patterns, colorful patterns and exquisite botanicals. One of my favorite wallpaper companies is Schumacher. Their design collections offer an array of patterns, colors and textures from hand-woven grass cloths, paper-backed natural linens, silk wovens, embossed vinyls and modern and historical prints to suit any homeowner’s taste and room décor. Schumacher Offers Beautiful Wallcovering Options From Classic Neutrals to Bold Patterns.
OUT: As a professional home stager, I always recommend removing wallpaper when selling. Wall covering choices in interior decorating are custom picked for a homeowner and very personal; it’s rare a buyer and seller will share the same sense of style for wallpaper. When staging a home to sell quickly and for top dollar, we are neutralizing the property to appeal to a range of buyers. Outdated designs will distract buyers, make a room look smaller and give the home a dated feel. Instead of seeing the room’s features, buyers will be thinking about the time and effort they’ll have to spend or the cost of removing the wallpaper. Hiring a professional who can properly strip and prep the walls and paint a neutral color is a definite cost effective update that will make the home more attractive to buyers. These following spaces were all transformed into spaces buyers could envision living and demonstrate the importance of neutralizing a space before listing your home.
This bathroom offers tremendous space and storage but buyers would be so distracted by the bold, blue cloud wallpaper they wouldn’t appreciate all the room’s features or envision it as their personal space.
The dated wallpaper in this master bedroom makes the room feel smaller and is unappealing for younger buyers. Replacing the wallpaper with a neutral paint color opens up the space so the room’s size and features, such as beautiful hardwood flooring stand out to buyers.
Buyers would be so distracted by the pink wallpaper they wouldn’t even notice the beautiful window seat in this additional bedroom.
